Beginner's Information

First of all, don't be scared! It's just yoga.

  • Arrive at least 15 minutes early for your first class.
  • Drink lots of water throughout the day prior to class. Sometimes this can be hard to do when taking early morning classes, but do your best to hydrate.
  • Come to class on an empty stomach. Try not to eat at least 2 to 3 hours prior. Keep in mind that you should not fast prior to your class either. Your body will need the fuel for the workout.
  • Wear comfortable clothing. You want fabrics that stretch and allows you to stretch. Dry wicking is also a plus. As a genral rule, if you could run with it, it should be fine!
  • Bring a mat if you have one, and three towels; 1 large towel for your yoga mat, 1 shower towel, and one small hand towel to wipe your hands during the class.
  • The room is hot. Some people love it their first class and others find it a challenge. Don't be discouraged! It may take several classes before you get used to the heat. We promise it gets better as you begin to get accostumed to the room conditions.
  • All classes are 90 minutes. Please try to stay in the room. Because of the nature and intention of the class, it is not an option to only take a portion of the class. Of course, there are times and situations that arise when it is necessary to leave a class early. If you should ever have to leave class early, please let the teacher know before the class begins.
  • Try to practice as many classes as possible your first 30 days. The closer together you do your classes the more you can build on the prior day's stretch. Take the Beginner's Challenge!
  • Don't worry about how flexible you are! As long as you try the right way you will get all the benefits. Flexibility will happen over time. In fact, Bikram often says that it is safer for you to start if you are inflexible. It is this very stiffness that will prevent you from putting your body in a compromising posture that may cause injury. As your flexibility grows, so will your sense of alignment and form.
  • Again, arrive at least 15 minutes early for your first class.
